Thompson Threatens To Vote Against Bronx Development
BRONX COMMUNITY DISTRICT 07
City comptroller William Thompson, who also sits on the board of the City's Industrial Development Agency (IDA), has threatened to vote “no” on Related Companies’ plans for the $323 million Kingsbridge Armory retail development in the Bronx if the developer does not make a number of changes. The IDA must approve the project as Related is attempting to get $13.8 million in tax breaks. Thompson joined with the Retail Wholesale and Department Store Union and other labor, religious and community groups to demand that Related agree to a Community Benefits Agreement(CBA) in which the developer guarantees wages and community hiring. Related is also being asked to build a school instead of a grocery store. A new grocery store would compete with one nearby. Related has said that they will continue to work with the community as the project moves forward.
