Bronx Borough President, Ruben Diaz Jr. (D), and the Kingsbridge Armory Redevelopment Alliance continue to fight for the passage of a living wage as part of the Kingsbridge Armory Redevelopment. The controversy rests on the developer's reluctance to include a living wage provision in the redevelopment plan. Though the Alliance recognizes the need for jobs in the Bronx, members stated that they would rather let the proposed development fail and wait for another proposal, if a living wage is not accepted. A professor at Occidental College, in Los Angeles, stated that close to 200 cities require developers who are using government subsidies to create living wage jobs. The plan will move forward to the City Council’s Land Use Committee for a public hearing.
